Blocked waste pipes can be flushed away
What can you do if you are stuck with a choked drainage? Well the easiest way to unclog your bathroom drain pipe is to use a drains plunger. The process is pretty straightforward to apply. What you don’t want to do however is to vigorously pump up and down like a jack hammer. Ideally the plunger’s bell shaped head should be used to cover the drainpipe fully, you can then push the plunger down and then pull it up again to create suction in a slow rhythmical manner. Hopefully the suction of the upwards movement of the drainage plunger will pull what ever is stuck in your drainage back up into the bathroom toilet, tub or sink. Note that some tubs and sinks are fitted with overflow holes that must be closed with a sponge or wet towel before proceeding with the plunger.
You could use a drains pipes clearance chemical that is designed to break down the material instead of the more conventional plunger. The chemicals are normally applied only after an unsuccessful attempt to remove the clog using a plunger. Run the chemical into the drainage and allow it to work for about 30 minutes before flushing the drain pipe with hot water. As a precaution you should wear clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty or corrosive chemicals on. If you are not careful the chemical filled water may splash on your face while you are using the drainage plunger, so use some eye protection for the same. Make sure to follow the supplier’s guide so that you won’t come across any problems.
If the plunger still doesn’t make any difference after the chemical treatment you could use pliers or a pipe wrench to loosen the P-trap nuts. Keep a bucket and towel to deal with the mess that will follow. By covering the jaws of your wrench with electrical tape you will avoid damaging the chrome on your pipes and it will also allow you to get a better purchase of them. Once you have removed the P-trap you can inspect the trap thoroughly for any blockage. Unfortunately if you can’t find anything, the problem probably runs a lot deeper and could be anywhere between the trap and the soil stack.
To unclog the toilet, you should use a toilet auger to get at these deep seated blockages. With a bathtub or sink, however a drainage snake should be used. drainage snakes are designed to reach deep down into the far reaches of your narrow pipes. Once you have pushed deep enough, rotate the handle to screw and hook into the blockage and slowly draw it out, this should pull the blockage with it. Once, you have taken out the obstruction, re-fix the P-trap and rinse the drainpipe with hot water to make sure that the entire clog has been removed. Make certain the whole thing is tightly closed and check for any leakage in the P-trap and ensure that the water flows well.
